Academic Eligibility

  • In summary, at the end of each semester (on their transcript) a student-athlete must have passed a minimum of five classes. {Only one student aide position will count towards this total and Study Hall is not counted as a class for this purpose.)
  • If a student-athlete does not have five passing classes on their transcript they remain ineligible throughout the following semester. (OSAA Rule 8.1)
  • To be scholastically eligible, a student must be making satisfactory progress towards the school’s graduation requirements by earning a minimum of the quantity of credits indicated below, prior to the start of the specified year. If a student-athlete does not meet this requirement, they will be ineligible for the entire school year. (osAA Rule 8.2)

  • At the end of each of the six grading periods, a student-athlete must have passed a minimum of five classes. {Only one student aide position will count towards this total and Study Hall is not counted as a class for this purpose.)
  • If a student-athlete is not passing five classes at the end of a grading period they are ineligible, at a minimum, until their team’s next competition has been contested.
  • After the next competition, the student-athlete may regain eligibility when they can show to the Athletic Director that they are passing at least five classes.
  • An academically ineligible athlete has 10 school days from the date that they were informed of their ineligibility to regain their eligibility. If not, they will be dropped from their team for the remainder of the season.
  • An academically ineligible athlete may continue to practice with their team (up to ten school days.) In fact, it is an expectation that the athlete will continue to participate in practices.
  • Academically ineligible athletes may not be in uniform at competitions during their ineligibility. The player may sit on the team bench with their coach’s permission.
  • Academically ineligible athletes may not travel to “away” games if they would miss any classes to do so.
