The new grandstands, originally scheduled to be completed by September 2022, have been delayed due to unforeseen circumstances. Newport High School is working closely with Superintendent Dr. Karen Gray and Facilities Director Rich Belloni to be ready for fall sports despite construction delays. Principal Reyna Mattson said, “although the grandstands will not be ready for fall season, NHS is pleased with the design and capacity of the new grandstands and we know they will be worth the wait.”
Portable bleachers, borrowed from Lincoln County Fairgrounds, are being brought in for seating this fall. West and East entrances will still be open during construction. The concession stand and inside bathroom facilities by the West entrance will be available. The new grandstands being built have a higher seating capacity, are ADA compliant, and include a covered area. The design provides storage, restrooms, and a large concession space under the grandstands.
In addition to the new grandstands, the Newport Booster Club recently purchased a new scoreboard using funds raised from the Fall Booster Auction. The new digital scoreboard will allow NHS to utilize updated technology and an integrated speaker system to enhance the experience for all sports and spectators. It is anticipated that the new scoreboard will be installed prior to fall season. The Newport Booster Club is also purchasing equipment for the new concession stand.
