Newport Cheer participated in the 2019 OSAA State Cheerleading Championships on Saturday winning the 4A Division.  Newport nailed their routine receiving zero deductions.  In addition to winning the 4A Division, Newport had the highest scoring routine of the morning including 1A-5A teams.  Newport Cheer has placed 2nd in State six times since 2000 (2000, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2007, 2018) including the devastating loss to Henley High School at the 2018 State Championships last year by .70.  Newport Cheer has additional State Championships from 2005 and 2006.  The 2018 1A-5A All State Cheerleading Team was recognized and performed at the end of the competition which included Newport’s Erin Watanabe (3rd Place), Sydney Tucker, and Tatiyana Shroyer.

Newport Cheer is coached by Head Coach Jessica Arnsdorf and Assistant Coaches: Melissa McDonald, Taylor Hayner, and Karissa Marshall.  The team consists of seniors: Ania Sacket, Annabelle Arnsdorf, Autum Hernandez, Jayden Weston, Marcela Acosta, Samantha Fergusion; juniors: Erin Watanabe, Jayla Fletcher; sophomores: Bella Kahman, Emma Anderson, Kristal Landa, Sydney Tucker, Tatiyana Shroyer; freshmen: Kaiya Watanabe, Zalie Garcia.
